American tennis star Ben Shelton recently shared a humorous insight into his grooming habits while traveling. On September 29, Shelton posted an amusing video, highlighting a man's barbershop experience gone awry.

Shelton, fresh off a quarterfinal loss to France’s Arthur Fils at the 2024 Kinoshita Group Japan Open Tennis Championships, is no stranger to long stints abroad due to the nature of the tennis tour.

Competing in Tokyo as the eighth seed and the defending champion, the American put on a strong showing with a 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 win over compatriot Reilly Opelka and a 6-4, 6-3 victory against Mariano Navone before being narrowly edged out in a three-set thriller against Fils 5-7, 7-6(5), 6-7(2).

On September 29, Shelton shared a video on his Instagram story, featuring a person’s haircut gone terribly wrong. In the clip, the individual requested a taper fade, but the barber misunderstood and shaved his entire head, leaving the customer visibly upset. Here's what Shelton wrote while sharing the clip:

"This why I don't get cut overseas."

In addition to his singles campaign, Shelton teamed up with Australian Jordan Thompson in the doubles event, where they reached the quarterfinals after defeating Japan’s Yoshihito Nishioka and Kaito Uesugi 7-6(3), 6-2. Unfortunately, Shelton and Thompson had to withdraw before their match against the British pair of Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool, handing them a walkover victory.

World No. 17 Ben Shelton is set to make his second appearance at the 2024 Shanghai Masters in China, scheduled for October 2-13. The American made a strong run at the event last year, reaching the quarterfinals before falling to 26th-seeded compatriot Sebastian Korda 7-6(10), 2-6, 6-7(6).

The 21-year-old began his Shanghai campaign with a bye into the second round, where he scored a 6-4, 6-4 win over Jaume Munar. The American followed up by defeating Russia's Roman Safiullin 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, and pulled off an impressive victory over Jannik Sinner 2-6, 6-3, 7-6(5) to advance to the quarterfinals.

Shelton’s 2024 season has been notable as well. The American captured his second ATP title at the 250 event in Houston, overcoming fellow American Frances Tiafoe in the final. In addition, Shelton reached the quarterfinals in Acapulco, Mallorca, and Cincinnati and advanced to the semifinals in Auckland, Dallas, and Washington.

The youngster performed consistently at Grand Slams, reaching at least the third round in the Australian Open, French Open, and US Open, with his best result being the Round of 16 at Wimbledon.
