Bianca Andreescu suffered a second straight first-round loss as she faced defeat against Elina Avanesyan in the Cincinnati Open. Fans expressed their disappointment with the Canadian, who had previously lost the first round of the Canadian Open a week ago.

At the WTA 1000 event in Canada, Andreescu flew off the blocks by winning the first set 6-0 against Lesia Tsurenko in the first round. However, the 24-year-old's momentum collapsed immediately as she lost the next two sets 3-6, 4-6 to bow out of her home tournament.

On Tuesday, August 13, Andreescu faced Armenia's Avanesyan in Cincinnati. The Aremnian qualifier ousted the Canadian wildcard 6-4, 7-5 in one hour and 51 minutes.

In an exceptional six-month period in 2019, Andreescu earned the only three titles of her career - The Indian Wells, the Canadian Open, and the US Open. Since then, she suffered a loss in form and most recently took an over nine-month-long hiatus before returning to play at the 2024 French Open.

Fans were disappointed with her recent run of form with many expressing their frustration on X (formerly Twitter).

"Oh Bianca Andreescu...... What a tragedy..." one fan wrote.
"Bianca Andreescu is so pathetic it’s embarrassing... no one should have to watch this sh*t lmao you gotta do everyone a favor and retire for good at this point," another fan wrote.
"Another 1st round exit for Andreescu. I don't know what is going on, but this 100% between the ears. I hate seeing someone with that much talent struggle because of purely the mental side of the game," a third fan wrote.

Here are some more fan reactions to Andreescu's loss.

"It’s wild how pathetic Andreescu is. Misses the easiest shots. How did she get this bad?" one fan pondered.
"Bianca Andreescu really scammed us with that US open huh?!" another fan wrote.

Currently ranked World No. 166, Bianca Andreescu is far off from directly qualifying into the main draw of the US Open. The 2019 winner used her protected rankings (PR) to enter the French Open and Wimbledon this year. She has exhausted her opportunity of entering a maximum of two Grand Slams using PR.

The 24-year-old received a wildcard to play the Canadian Open and Cincinnati Open main draw. She would be hoping to earn another wildcard at the US Open. Otherwise, her only other shot at playing the main draw of the competition is to go through the qualifying rounds.
