Billie Jean King recently shared an inspiring message to address the "anger and confusion" that some people experienced following Donald Trump's victory in the US presidential elections. Trump emerged victorious over Kamala Harris to become the President of the United States for a second term.
Trump is a member of the Republican Party and he served as the 45th President of the United States from 2017 to 2021. He will assume the role as the 47th President of the country on January 2025. The 78-year-old will take office with JD Vance as the Vice President-elect of the United States by his side.
Reacting to Donald Trump's win, Billie Jean King took to social media to share her thoughts on the election results . In a statement, she expressed that it was important to persevere and be resilient in the face of adversity . She said that people need to continue their efforts towards creating a future that they want the next generation to have
"Throughout my life, I have fought many battles that at the time seemed daunting and unwinnable. However, each one taught me a valuable lesson, and that lesson is this: we must never stop working to create the future we want to leave for the next generation," King posted on X (formerly Twitter).
Acknowledging the widespread feelings of "anger and confusion" following Kamala Harris's defeat, King echoed the Vice president's sentiments, stating that the people need to channel these emotions into a drive for progress and positive change.
"The results of the U.S . presidential election have left many of us angry and confused. But this loss is feedback, not failure. As Vice President Harris said today, "The light of America's promise will always burn bright as long as we never give up and as long as we keep fighting." Let's do this together," the former World No. 1 added.
Billie Jean King previously rued Donald Trump being the president: "It is shocking"
In 2018, during Donald Trump's first term as president, Billie Jean King expressed her concern that his presidency symbolized American people going "backwards."
"Every generation has to fight for equality. It is shocking that [Donald] Trump is president because we are going backwards. That is the way the pendulum goes and that is our fault," King said [via Big Issue].
Despite this, King said that she is optimistic that the younger generation will work towards "inclusivity" and make progress.
"But the millennials and kids today are the best generations ever about inclusion and they can make it happen. So that is my hope. They are going to nail it. They are going to make such progress," she added.
In addition to Billie Jean King, tennis players such as Coco Gauff and Martina Navratilova have also lamented Trump's re-election.
