Bianca Andreescu has given an update on the injury that caused her to burst into tears during her second round match at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Andreescu made her debut at the Olympic Games this year.
Andreescu, Leylah Fernandez, Felix Auger-Aliassime, Milos Raonic, and Gabriela Dabrowski were selected to represent Canada in tennis at the Paris Olympics. The former World No.4 qualified for the Games using her protected ranking.
Andreescu kicked off her Olympic campaign with a dominant victory over Denmark's Clara Tauson, winning 6-2, 6-3 in the first round. Unfortunately, her journey at the Games came to an end in the second round when she was defeated by 13th seed, Croatia's Donna Vekic 6-3, 6-4.
During the match, the Canadian suffered a thumb injury in the early stages of the second set. The injury occurred when the follow-through of her racket hit her left thumb after a forehand shot, causing her significant pain.
Andreescu took a medical timeout, during which she was seen crying in agony.
Following the match, Bianca Andreescu took to social media to provide an update on her thumb injury. She reassured her fans that while it was a scary moment, the injury was not "serious." She also expressed her appreciation and gratitude for the outpouring of well wishes she received.
Looking ahead, Andreescu shared that she is focused on moving past the injury and is eagerly waiting to compete at the 2024 Canadian Open .
"Bit of a scare today with my thumb during my match... bad news is that it happened when it happened :(... but good news is that it's nothing too serious! Now getting ready for @nbotoronto ❤️ 💪🏼 gotta move on and move forward! Thank you for all the nice messages. They mean a lot, especially during moments like this 🙏🏼 ," Andreescu wrote on her Instagram story.

Following her loss at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Bianca Andreescu will next compete at the Canadian Open, which is scheduled to begin on August 6 and go on till August 12.
Andreescu won the Canadian Open title in 2019. She began her campaign by defeating compatriot Eugenie Bouchard 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 and Daria Kasatkina 5-7, 6-2, 7-5 in the first and second rounds respectively. The former World No.4 then defeated fifth seed Kiki Bertens 6-1, 6-7(7), 6-4 in the third round and third seed Karolina Pliskova 6-0, 2-6, 6-4 in the quarterfinals.
At the semifinals, Andreescu overcame Sofia Kenin 6-4, 7-6(5) and then went onto lift the trophy after eighth seed Serena Williams retired in the final due to back spasms, with the scoreline at 3–1.
