Destanee Aiava has hit back against the people who have commented negatively regarding her physical appearance. The player from Australia recently wore an outfit designed by Nike for Maria Sharapova, which the Russian player debuted back when she was active on the court. Aiava began to receive negative comments regarding how she looked with the dress on social media immediately after wearing it, but that athlete has responded to the insults.
Aiava mentioned through her own social media account how the comments had triggered her eating disorder. The young player from Australia also called out the person talking negatively about her on social media, due to how the profile (@Maribeaut) supposedly stood against "personal insults and swearing".
Destanee Aiava has chosen this outfit for the current leg of the WTA Tour, which will culminate with the highly-anticipated Australian Open. The dress was designed for the $180 million-worth (as per Celebrity Net Worth) Maria Sharapova to wear during the 2012 edition of the US Open, the final Grand Slam of the season.
Aiava recently won the ITF event at Brisbane, Australia. The local player defeated Lizette Cabrera in the final match of the tournament. Destanee Aiava's rank currently sits at 165. In order to play in the main draw of the Australian Open, the young player would have to win her qualifying matches.
Destanee Aiava looks to improve her ranking
Destanee Aiava is looking for a better start to the first Grand Slam of the season. The last time the young player was able to qualify for a Major tournament, she was immediately stopped in her tracks. Aiava was beaten in the first round of the U.S. Open by Elena Rybakina, who was the World No. 4 at the time.
A Grand Slam tournament would give Aiava an opportunity to quickly climb the WTA Rankings. If the young player manages to climb just a few more spots during the first months of the year, she won't have to play the qualifying rounds for this year's edition of the French Open.
During last year's edition of the Australian Open, Aiava was beaten in the qualifying matches by Renata Zarazua, a rising Mexican player who has previously competed in the main draw of Grand Slam tournaments. There's still time for Aiava to qualify for this year's edition of the first Grand Slam, with the Australian player taking on Panna Udvardy soon.
