Former tennis player Boris Becker has showered praise on Andy Murray for making a remarkable comeback on tour. He feels that, with his current form, the Brit could make a deep run at this year's Wimbledon as well.
Murray started the 2023 season on a rather sub-standard note, enduring a first-round defeat at the Adelaide International 1 and a third-round exit at the Australian Open. However, he made a sensational run to the final of the Qatar Open, only to lose out against an in-form Daniil Medvedev in the summit clash.
In a conversation on EuroSport, Becker emphasized the "incredible" fashion in which Murray has made his comeback on tour, playing great tennis.
“Simply incredible. I wouldn’t have expected him to come back that strong after his hip surgery. How he wrestles down his opponent, mostly over three sets, and also playing great tennis, as well in the final against Danill Medvedev," he stated.
Taking into consideration the way Murray is playing at present, the German opined that the Brit could pull off a good performance on his favorite grass surface at Wimbledon.
“It is incredible how he managed to come back like this, and I want to look ahead a little bit. If he keeps on playing like this and winning matches, I’m looking forward to Wimbledon. I think he might be on a good level there - on his favourite surface, which is grass,” added Becker.
Murray last played in the Qatar Open final. He lost against Medvedev in straight sets (6-4, 6-4) as he was denied his first title in four years.
