Tennis legend Boris Becker recently reacted to Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola's remark that he would always be a "failure" after Julia Roberts visited arch-rivals Manchester United.
Manchester City thrashed RB Leipzig 7-0 in a one-sided UEFA Champions League last-16 second-leg clash on Tuesday night. Superstar striker Erling Haaland scored five times in total to seal a 8-1 aggregate victory for his team and book a place in the quarterfinals for the Premier League side.
Guardiola, however, stated in a press conference following the demolition of Leipzig that he would always be a "failure" even if he won the Champions League three times in a row.
"I am a failure in the Champions League. If I win the Champions League three times in a row, I will be a failure," he said.
The lighthearted Spaniard joked that he considers himself a failure because his "idol," Julia Roberts, snubbed his club in 2016 to spend time at Old Trafford, the home of rivals Manchester United.
"I have three idols in my life. Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, and Julia Roberts. These are my three idols. Julia Roberts years ago came to Manchester - not in the 90s when Sir Alex [Ferguson] was winning titles and titles and titles. She came in the period where we were better than United, in these four or five years, right?" Guardiola said.
"And she went to visit Man United. She didn't come to see us. That's why even if I win the Champions League, it will not compare for the fact that Julia Roberts came to Manchester and didn't come to see us," he added.
Following this, six-time Grand Slam champion Becker reacted with amusement to the matter on his Instagram stories, commenting that the former Barcelona star is "funny."
"Pep is funny!!!" Becker wrote.
Pep Guardiola has been on a quest to win the Champions League with Manchester City, but he has so far been unsuccessful, losing in the semi-finals last season after losing in the final the previous year to Chelsea.
