Boris Becker recently took a trip down memory lane by sharing a throwback picture with Andre Agassi. The duo, widely regarded by fans as two of the greatest players in tennis history, dominated the sport from the 1980s to the early 2000s, winning a combined 14 Grand Slam singles titles.

Both Agassi and Becker have been inducted into the Tennis Hall of Fame, having retired in 2006 and 1999, respectively. On Tuesday, the German legend re-shared a post on X (formerly Twitter) originally made by New York Times journalist Christopher Clarey.

The post featured a picture of the two as young players on the court in tennis gear, with Boris Becker's arm draped over Agassi's shoulder. Another image showed a recent photo of them in their fifties, both dressed in matching black suits.

“Memory lane…,” Boris Becker quoted the tweet.

Andre Agassi, with eight Grand Slam singles titles, is one of only five men to have achieved a career Grand Slam in the Open Era. He held the distinction of being the only player to win the Career Super Slam (all four Grand Slams, an Olympic gold medal, and the ATP Finals) for decades until Novak Djokovic matched this feat by winning a gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Boris Becker, on the other hand, won six Grand Slam singles titles and a men's doubles gold medal at the 1992 Olympics. He still holds the record as the youngest player to win the Wimbledon singles title, a feat he accomplished in 1985 at the age of 17.

During their active careers, Becker and Agassi faced off 14 times on the ATP Tour over 11 years. Their first encounter was in the semifinals of the 1988 Indian Wells Open, where Becker emerged victorious. However, by the time the two faced off each other for the last time in 1999, Agassi led their head-to-head 10-4.

Andre Agassi on predicting Boris Becker's serve - “He had this weird tick with his tongue”

In an interview with Unscriptd in 2017, Andre Agassi revealed how he picked up serve clues by observing Boris Becker's tongue whenever the German was about to serve.

“I started to realise he had this weird tick with his tongue, I’m not kidding. He would go into his rocking motion – his same routine – and just as he was about to toss the ball, he would stick his tongue out. And it would either be right in the middle of his lip, or it’d be to the left corner of his lip,” Andre Agassi said

He further claimed that the position or direction of Boris Becker's tongue indicated where he would serve; up the middle, to the body, or wide.

“If he’s serving in the deuce court and he put his tongue in the middle of his lip, he was either serving up the middle or to the body. But if he put it to the side, he was going to serve out wide,” Agassi added.

Since retiring, Andre Agassi's love for tennis remains strong; however, he has also developed a passion for pickleball, helping the sport gain popularity by organizing the Pickleball Slam. This exhibition event has featured Grand Slam winners such as Andy Roddick, Maria Sharapova, Steffi Graf, Michael Chang, John McEnroe, and others competing for a prize of one million dollars.
