Boris Becker was moved by Jannik Sinner's sportsmanship after the Italian consoled Alexander Zverev following the German's heartbreaking loss at the Australian Open. The two players had just faced off in the tournament's final match at the Rod Laver Arena.
On Sunday, January 26, second seed Zverev faced top seed Sinner in the final. After dropping the first set, the German made a strong comeback in the second, taking it to a tense tiebreaker.
However, Sinner proved to be too strong for Zverev, defeating him in straight sets with a commanding score of 3-6, 6-7(4), 3-6. This loss marked Zverev's third defeat in a Grand Slam final, following his setbacks at the 2020 US Open and the 2024 French Open.
Former German World No.1, Boris Becker, shared an emotional moment from the Australian Open final in a post on X (formerly Twitter). He highlighted a touching scene where Jannik Sinner consoled Alexander Zverev, offering a warm embrace after the German broke down in tears following his title loss.
