The outfits for Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, Holger Rune, Frances Tiafoe and other Nike-sponsored male players for the North American hard court swing leading up to the 2024 US Open have left fans unimpressed. Many fans have expressed their disappointment with the perceived "downfall" of the brand's designs in recent years.
With the 2024 Wimbledon Championships concluding with Alcaraz clinching his second Major title of the season, all eyes will now shift to the US Open, the final Grand Slam of the year. Following a quick turnaround back to clay for the Paris Olympics, players will commence the hard court swing in preparation for the New York Major.
Ahead of the US Open Series, Nike has unveiled its fall collection for the men's players. The collection includes three color-blocked kits in light blue, brick red and neon green. The other three outfits feature a unique, uneven striped pattern on the top, in the same colorways.
After both Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner's French Open outfits by Nike were met with disappointment, fans expressed their dismay at the latest "atrocious" designs as well.
One fan even urged the Spaniard to break his contract with the brand, while another suggested that Sinner should win another Major title to earn custom kits.
"Carlos Alcaraz im begging you break that contract these ni**as are BUMS," one fan commented.
"Need jannik to get out of his fraud era and win more slams asap so he can wear custom kits 😭😭😭 these are all so bad," another fan chimed in.
"This is all atrocious!!!!" a fan remarked.
Fans also lamented the apparent "downfall" in the brand's designs, calling for Nike to stop sponsoring tennis players.
"F**king hideous. The downfall of Nike will never make sense to me. Maybe I’ll make a thread on it idk it’s pissing me off," one fan posted.
"Nike just needs to not handle tennis anymore if this is gonna be the outcome of their product meetings," another fan wrote.
"Are you allergic to serving now what the f**k is wrong with you @nike," said yet another.
Others, meanwhile, expressed their relief regarding Taylor Fritz and Andrey Rublev's decisions to end their partnerships with Nike.
"Taylor bounced at the right time my god," one fan commented.
"Everyday I wake up and I thank the lord that Andrey decided to risk going bankrupt to leave Nike," another fan chimed in.
As Nike faces financial problems due to significant drops in stock price and shareholder value, several fans humorously remarked that these issues were evident in their underwhelming designs.
"They spent all their money on scoring top players that they had no money to give to actual designs," one fan joked.
"Nike struggling financially is showing so badly," another fan quipped.
Carlos Alcaraz will be on the hunt for his fifth Grand Slam title at US Open 2024
After winning back-to-back Grand Slam titles at the 2024 French Open and the Wimbledon Championships, Carlos Alcaraz will be on the hunt for his fifth Major title at the 2024 US Open.
Having won his maiden Slam at the 2022 edition of the New York Major, the Spaniard will have ample experience to rely on against fellow contenders like the World No. 1 Jannik Sinner and defending champion Novak Djokovic.
However, before the 21-year-old commences the North American hard court swing in preparation for the US Open, he will compete at the Paris Olympics, commencing on July 26.
In a recent interview with the Tennis Channel, Carlos Alcaraz outlined his goal to bring home the gold medal for his country and expressed excitement about his "dream" doubles partnership with Rafael Nadal.
"Obviously coming to the tournament, I am going to go for the title, I am going to go just thinking that I will [be] able to win it, that's my goal to bring a medal to my country, hopefully the gold medal," Carlos Alcaraz said.
"And obviously the doubles with Rafa is going to be a really dream moment for me. Obviously we will try to bring the gold medal again," he added.
Nadal has already begun his doubles preparation for the prestigious sporting event, teaming up with Casper Ruud at the ongoing Nordea Open in Bastad.
