Boris Becker doubted Carlos Alcaraz would achieve double-digit Grand Slam titles
In July, after Carlos Alcaraz defeated Novak Djokovic to claim the 2024 Wimbledon Championship, Boris Becker expressed doubts about the Spaniard’s ability to reach double-digit Grand Slam titles. Becker was particularly concerned about Alcaraz’s capacity to stay injury-free and maintain his current level over the next decade.
“The question is, how long can he stay hungry and how long can he stay injury free? He plays a very physical brand of tennis and he has been prone to injuries in the past, so I am keeping my fingers crossed that he can stay fit," Becker said.
"Look, if he can keep it going at his current levels for 10 years, I wouldn’t be surprised if he doesn’t have double-digit Grand Slam titles. That means he will get to ten and then who knows how many. What we have to say is there is a long road ahead and there are a lot of things that can come around the corner,” he added.
With Rafael Nadal announcing that he will retire at the 2024 Davis Cup, Novak Djokovic (24) will be the only active player left on the ATP Tour with more Grand Slam titles than Carlos Alcaraz (4).
