Carlos Alcaraz was spotted donning Andre Agassi's Nike shoes at the 2025 Australian Open. The Spaniard advanced to the quarterfinal after Jack Draper retired due to injury from their fourth-round clash.
Alcaraz matched his best Australian Open performance by reaching the quarterfinals on Sunday, January 19. He faced Draper in the fourth round, but the Brit was not in top form after enduring three grueling five-set matches.
Although Draper pushed Alcaraz in the first set, losing 5-7, he received treatment from a physio before returning to the court. However, the Brit struggled physically, dropping the second set 1-6, and eventually retired without playing the third set.
During his on-court interview, Alcaraz was asked about the shoes he wore, which resembled those Andre Agassi wore during his four Australian Open victories. The Spaniard changed his shoes before going for his post-match interview and donned what was seemingly the Nike Air Tech Challenge 2 "Racer Pink" edition.
"Well, I mean, last year I brought, John McEnroe shoes here. This year, I'm bringing the Agassi shoes. It's kind of, those players, those guys are, are legends from our sport," Carlos Alcaraz said.
The 21-year-old admitted he cannot say he looked up to the American legends as he is too young to have watched them. However, he revealed an aspect of Agassi's game he would like to replicate.
"It is amazing to have the chance to be around and be able to talk with them. But as I said many, many times, I think the return from Agassi, it would be great if I add that to my game. It's just great to have them around."
Agassi introduced the Tech Challenge 2 collection in 1989 and Alcaraz has been wearing the re-released versions.

The 2025 Australian Open is not the only Grand Slam event where Carlos Alcaraz donned the famed Andre Agassi shoes. At the 2024 US Open, the Spaniard wore the Nike Air Tech Challenge 2 "Hot Lava" edition during his first-round win over Li Tu. Agassi had noted Alcaraz's shoes from the match and gave him a shoutout.
Currently, Alcaraz is preparing for a second consecutive Australian Open quarterfinal. The third seed will take on the winner between 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic and 24th seed Jiri Lehecka. After winning the rest of the three Grand Slam events, Alcaraz is aiming for a Career Grand Slam in Melbourne.
