Carlos Alcaraz got the better of Ugo Humbert in the fourth round at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships. The defending champion's undying will was on full display during the match, and he described it as "unbelievable" before shedding more light on how he was willing to fight for every last ball.

Alcaraz played out an action-packed five-set match against Frances Tiafoe in the third round on July 5. He was back on Centre Court on Sunday, July 7, to face Frenchman Humbert in the fourth round for a place in the quarterfinal.

Although Humbert was not outplayed as much as the score indicates, the Spaniard's magical moments were what won it. Alcaraz won the match 6-3, 6-4, 1-6, 7-5. The World No. 3 faced a huge dip in the third set and was three break points down in the fourth at 3-4. But he saved himself from getting broken and went on to win the set and the match.

His best moment of the match was at set point in the second set. The 21-year-old did a split while playing a shot and ran the width of the court almost twice before running toward the net for multiple shots to finally see Humbert hitting his lob out of the line.

During his post-match on-court interview, Alcaraz was asked what he would say if he was commentating on himself during this sequence. The Spaniard said:

"Unbelievable, I guess."

He went on to explain how he tries to fight for every ball.

"I just tried to fight for every ball. It doesn't matter which part of the court I am in, just giving myself the chance to stay alive in the point...," he said.
"On set point, that was a really important point for me. So, i had to show the opponent that it didn't matter what he was going to do, I am going to be there, fighting until the last ball," he added.

Carlos Alcaraz faced a defeat against Britain's Jack Draper in the Queen's Club Championships in the round of 16 stage. The left-handed Draper caused the Spaniard a lot of trouble.

In the fourth round at Wimbledon, Alcaraz was up against left-handed Humbert. During a post-match interview, the Spaniard admitted that it was tricky to play a left-hander, but he said that he learned from his past experience.

"Playing a lefty is always tricky. I played a lefty at Queen's and learned a bit from that match. I felt great playing today. I played at a really high level," Carlos Alcaraz said.

The 21-year-old will face the winner of the match between Tommy Paul and Roberto Bautista Agut in the quarterfinal on Tuesday, July 9.
