Carlos Alcaraz recently voiced his concerns about the grueling ATP Tour schedule, joking that if it keeps up, it might "kill" him and the other players. While his comments weren’t intended to be harsh, they didn’t sit well with fans, many of whom criticized him for perceived double standards.
Alcaraz has already competed in 13 events this season and is currently at the Laver Cup. He is slated to play in seven more events, including the 'Six Kings Slam' exhibition in Saudi Arabia, where he will join notable players like Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Jannik Sinner, Daniil Medvedev, and Holger Rune.
The four-time Major champion told the reporters in Berlin, Germany, during Day 2 of the Laver Cup that he believes the Tour schedule is taking a significant toll on players and their health. He said:
"A lot of players feel like, okay, it is a good calendar. And a lot of players says that it’s really tight and a lot of tournaments during the whole year."
"I’m the kind of player who think there is a lot of tournaments during the year, mandatory tournament, and probably during the next few years gonna be even more tournaments, more mandatory tournaments. So, I mean, probably they are going to kill us in some way (smiling)," he added.
Tennis fans have pushed back against Carlos Alcaraz's comments, flocking to X (formerly Twitter) to criticize him for participating in numerous exhibition events himself. One fan wrote:
"I'm sorry Carlos, but you're so dumb, bc you have a good point but you play 132238 exhibitions a year."
"He can’t moan when he’s playing a load of exhibition matches like Laver Cup and Slam Kings! When he cuts out those events he can complain, until then this is a complete joke!" another wrote.

"Sounds just like these young kids entering the workplace in the US. 'I only want to work remote. I won’t answer emails outside of work hours. I want to be a VP but only want to work 40 hrs/week.' Not gonna lie Carlos, but you need to put on your big boy Calvins & stop whining."
"Davis Cup first round + Laver Cup + Six Kings Slam + Garden Cup. If Alcaraz feels this way maybe he should skip some of these events?" one user wrote.
"Laver Cup, Garden Cup, that exhibition in Saudi and isn't there one more exhibition tennis with Tiafoe coming? So, maybe shut the fuck up about schedule?" another commented.
One account chimed in, posting:
