Jannik Sinner crushed Alexander Zverev in the final of the 2025 Australian Open to successfully defend his crown in Melbourne. The Italian wasn't troubled by the German, who despite his best efforts, found himself on the end of the World No. 1's onslaught.

Sinner and Zverev came into the tournament as the heavy favorites, taking the top two seeds respectively. After a fortnight of brilliance, they set up a highly-anticipated blockbuster clash. What many expected to go down in the history books, Jannik Sinner's 6-3, 7-6(4), 6-3 decimation job of Alexander Zverev after two hours and 42 minutes turned out to be an underwhelming affair for them.

Fans took to X (formerly Twitter) to express their disappointment. One fan felt Carlos Alcaraz, who lost to Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinals, would have delivered a better final.

"Very boring tournament. Someone like Carlos Alcaraz would have given a proper fight than this foolish no.2 against Jannik Sinner," the fan opined.

Another fan quipped about what the match lacked:

"Has to be said, this men's final is so aura-less," the fan quipped.

Here are some other reactions from tennis fans with a fan using a hilarious comparison to show the difference between the men's and women's finals.

"ao men’s final: ao women’s final:," a fan joked.
"People in funeral are making more noise than AO crowd," a fan poked fun.
"The final of an ATP slam and my timeline is literal crickets. Partly a reflection of the tastes of those I follow but man...I miss caring about this sport like I used to. At least I've slept well this past fortnight," a fan remarked.
"happy for Sinner but that was not entertaining at all," a fan said.

In the history of tennis, only eight men have managed to win their first three Grand Slam finals. Jannik Sinner joined an illustrious list of legends, including Bjorn Borg, Jimmy Connors, Stefan Edberg, Gustavo Kuerten, Roger Federer, Stan Wawrinka, and his biggest rival Carlos Alcaraz. Interestingly, out of this list, Federer won his first seven Grand Slam finals.

The 23-year-old is currently on a 21-match win streak on the hardcourt Majors. He won his first Major at the Australian Open last year following which he won the US Open, and defended his Melbourne Major. The World No. 1 will look to conquer the clay and the grass next as he continues to improve his tennis.
