Norwegian tennis player Casper Rudd recently thanked World No. 3 Carlos Alcaraz for saving the day for Team Europe at the 2024 Laver Cup. This came just a day after the Spaniard beat American player Taylor Fritz to give Team Europe their fifth Laver Cup title.
Alcaraz stepped on Uber Arena for his singles match against Fritz on Sunday (September 22) with Team Europe trailing the John McEnroe-led side by a point. Owing to this, the onus was on the 4-time Grand Slam winner to see his side through to the victory line and the Spaniard didn't disappoint.
Alcaraz started off the proceedings of the match in a dominant fashion, taking the first set 6-2. Fritz performed fairly well in the second set but it was not enough to stop the dominant force of the Spaniard who eventually clinched the second set 7-5 to hand a straight-set defeat to the 2024 US Open finalist.
Alcaraz's victory also prevented Team World from clinching their third straight Laver Cup title as the Bjorn Borg-led Team Europe reigned supreme in Berlin with a scoreline of 13-11. Following this impressive performance from the 23-year-old Spaniard, his Team Europe teammate Casper Rudd took to his official X handle to share a thankful note under Alcaraz's tweet.
"Thanks for saving us bro" he wrote.
Rudd partnered with Carlos Alcaraz earlier on Sunday to defeat Team World's Frances Tiafoe and Ben Shelton 6-2, 7-6(6) in the doubles match to post three crucial points on the board for Team Europe.
Carlos Alcaraz opens up about his comparisons with tennis legend Roger Federer

Carlos Alcaraz recently commented on comparisons in the media between him and 20-time Grand Slam winner, Roger Federer. This came after the Spaniard's dominant outing in the last match of the 2024 Laver Cup.
When asked about this comparison during a conversation after his victory against Taylor Fritz, Alcaraz replied (via Tennishead):
"I'm too far away from that level. I hope I'll reach it one day, but it's going to be impossible."
Alcaraz navigated an impressive journey in this 2024 season with two Grand Slam victories at the French Open and Wimbledon. Besides, he also won the Indian Wells Masters and was adjudged the MVP of the 2024 Laver Cup.
