World No. 3 Carlos Alcaraz is ready for the 2025 season and has his goals set already. He revealed his objectives during the pre-tournament press conference at the 2025 Australian Open.

Alcaraz is set to kickstart the calendar year against Kazakhstan's Alexander Shevchenko in the Melbourne Major first round. He has won every Grand Slam trophy except the Norman Brookes Challenge Cup in Australia.

The Spaniard's best outing at Melbourne Park came last year, when he produced a run to the quarterfinals, losing 6-1, 6-3, 6-7(2), 6-4 to Germany's Alexander Zverev. During the pre-season, he voiced his intentions to complete the Career Grand Slam puzzle once he gets to Australia.

He sat down with the media inside Melbourne Park's main interview room on Saturday, January 11, and revealed in response to a question from Sportskeeda that he has plans to overtake Alexander Zverev as the World No. 2 and get closer to top-ranked Jannik Sinner in the ATP rankings.

"For me, the goals is trying to win Grand Slams and Masters 1000, that’s for me are the most important tournaments of the world," he said.
"Obviously, the ranking is up there in the goals as well… trying to get as close as I can to Jannik, try to pass Zverev as well. So, the ranking is there, mainly thing for me is Grand Slams, try to win as much Grand Slams I can so that’s my goal," the Spaniard added.

Carlos Alcaraz took the court against Alex de Minaur for a charity match at Rod Laver Arena ahead of the 2025 Australian Open main event. Playing his first match at Melbourne Park this year, Alcaraz came up short against the home-favorite De Minaur, losing 7-5, 4-6, 10-5.

The victor hilariously called the match-up a practice session.

"The sky is the limit," the Aussie stated post-match. "I'm pushing myself every day, and hopefully, I can keep this momentum going. I'm very excited by what is going to come over the next few weeks. It's great to be back here... it was a great practice session."

On the ATP Tour, however, Carlos Alcaraz remains ahead of the Alex de Minaur in their head-to-head, having won both of their prior encounters.

Their first meeting came in the semifinals of the Barcelona Open, with the Spaniard narrowly winning 6-7(4), 7-6(4), 6-4. They then locked horns in the final of the 2023 Queen's Club Championships, with Alcaraz triumphing 6-4, 6-4 to win his first title on grass.
