Carlos Alcaraz put up an impressive display to get the better of Juncheng Shang at the Shanghai Masters on Saturday. Fans lauded the Spaniard's effort, with some comments calling him "ruthless" after defeating the local player in straight sets.
Alcaraz is fresh off of a title win in Beijing as he clinched the China Open after defeating Jannik Sinner in the final. Soon after, both players traveled to Shanghai for the Masters 1000 event.
Alcaraz, seeded third, received a first-round bye and faced Chengdu Open champion Juncheng Shang in the second round. The Spaniard showed his class and efficiency during the match, comfortably securing a 6-2, 6-2 win in just 1 hour and 16 minutes.
The scoreline was posted on Reddit and fans praised his ruthless efficiency in the comments. Some fans noted Alcaraz's aggression. One fan joked that the Spaniard played like he needed to get back to sleep. The fan wrote,
"Carlos played like he had to go back to sleep today. He must be exhausted."
"1h 16min 😭 ruthless from Carlitos," another fan wrote.
"Shang is a good player coming off his first title and in front of his home crowd and Carlos just didn’t gaf 😭😭" a third fan wrote.
Several fans mentioned that Carlos Alcaraz was on a winning streak since his shock defeat against Botic van de Zandschulp in the US Open second round.
"Carlitos on post Botic revenge tour," one fan wrote.
"New mythical player: Angry Alcaraz (who’s not playing against VDZ)," another fan wrote.
One fan opined the match showed two sides of the 21-year-old's personality. The fan wrote,
"Carlos is in his "reputation" era, aggressive and ruthless, and I'm loving it, not gonna lie. Sometimes he’s like a golden retriever on the court, and other times he’s got this angry, annoyed expression for no apparent reason. I love both sides. He was likely just exhausted and wanted to get off the court quickly to get some rest, hence the "annoyed" look."
