Carlos Alcaraz has beaten the Big 3 trio of Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, and Novak Djokovic to become the youngest man to reach the Grand Slam finals on all three surfaces -- clay, hard, and grass. Alcaraz defeated Jannik Sinner 2-6, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 to reach the final at the 2024 French Open.
Federer was 24 years old when he reached the final on all three surfaces. He reached his first final in 2003 at Wimbledon and emphatically lifted the title, then reached the hard court final at the 2004 Australian Open, lifting the title as well. However, he had to wait two more years before reaching the French Open final in 2006.
Djokovic, too, was 24 years old when he achieved this feat. He reached his first final at a Grand Slam on hardcourts at the 2008 Australian Open and won the title. The Serb then reached his first grasscourt final, winning at Wimbledon in 2011, and followed it up with a claycourt final at the 2012 French Open.
Nadal was the youngest out of the Big 3, as he reached the final at Grand Slam on all three surfaces at the age of 22. The King of Clay reached his first final and also won the title at the 2005 French Open. He then followed it up with a final at Wimbledon 2006. At the 2009 Australian Open, he reached the final at a hardcourt Slam for the first time and won the title.
Carlos Alcaraz has beaten all of them by reaching the final on all surfaces at just 21 years of age. He won the US Open in 2022 and then won Wimbledon in 2023. The Spaniard has now reached a final at the clay court Slam as well, with a victory over Jannik Sinner.
Before Alcaraz became the youngest man ever to reach the Grand Slam final on all surfaces, Andre Agassi held the title as he was 22 years and 1 month old when he achieved this feat. Bjorn Borg is next at 22 years and 2 months. Rafael Nadal followed Borg at 22 years and 6 months and Jim Courier at 22 years and 10 months.
Carlos Alcaraz to face Alexander Zverev in the final at the 2024 French Open
Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev will lock horns in the final of the 2024 French Open. The Spaniard is vying for his third Grand Slam and his first title at Roland Garros.
Zverev, on the other hand, is hunting for his first Major title. He previously reached the 2020 US Open final but lost to Dominic Thiem after taking the first two sets.
The German leads the head-to-head at 5-4. The duo met in the French capital at the 2022 French Open quarterfinal with Zverev reigning supreme in a four-setter. Their last meeting was a lopsided affair at the 2024 Indian Wells Masters with Alcaraz triumphing in straight sets.
