Tennis fans rose to defend Carlos Alcaraz over a journalist berating him in a press conference after his semifinal loss to Jannik Sinner at the 2023 Miami Open. The Spaniard fought valiantly in a three-set battle, but the Italian won 6-7, 6-4, 6-2.

The result means Alcaraz could not complete the 'Sunshine Double' this weekend by defending his Miami title after winning the 2023 Indian Wells Masters last week. As a result, the 19-year-old will drop to No. 2 in the ATP rankings next week.

A journalist suggested that the reigning US Open Champion had lost a lot, something which did not go down with the youngster’s fans.

“Carlos, you’ve lost No. 1, you’ve lost the title, you’ve lost the 'Sunshine Double", is how the journalist began his question.

Alcaraz’s fans were infuriated by his words and took to social media to defend the Spanish tennis star. One opined that anyone could become a journalist these days.

“They really let everyone become journalists these days don’t they?” wrote one fan.

Most fans berated the journalist, pointing out how he had also asked such insensitive questions to other players. Others pointed out that this is only the Spaniard's second loss this season, and he is only 19 and has his whole career ahead of him to win more trophies.

Carlos Alcaraz knew he needed to defend his Miami title if he wanted to keep the No. 1 spot in the ATP rankings. The Spaniard fell to Italian Jannik Sinner in the semifinal, and as a result, Novak Djokovic will reclaim the No. 1 ranking next week.

The 19-year-old took the loss in his stride and said that though the loss was disappointing, he has many years to complete the 'Sunshine Double'. Meanwhile, he is concentrating on improving his level.

“For me, it is like I lost the semi-final. I don’t think about that I lost the No.1, I lost the Sunshine Double. I don’t think about it,” said the US Open champion.

He added, to elaborate his point.

“I think I am gonna have more years to try to get it. But all I can think about is to improve my level to beat Jannik. Yeah, for me, I just lost a semi-final of a tournament.”
