Carlos Alcaraz's younger brother Jaime cheered on for his 'Idol' Dominic Thiem as the Austrian gears up for the upcoming 2024 Madrid Open.
Thiem, who has been struggling with his form for a long time, has been trying to climb his way to the top. The Austrian will be hoping to turn his form around at the Madrid Open, where he is slated to feature next. The 30-year-old will enter the qualifiers of the Masters 1000 tournament as the 14th seed and will kick things off against Brazil's Felipe Alaves in the first round.
Ahead of the tournament, Thiem announced his arrival in Madrid through a post on Instagram.
"Hola Madrid! 🇪🇸 First round tomorrow," he said via Instagram
Carlos Alcaraz's brother Jaime, who is a big fan of the Austrian, cheered him on with a comment on his post.
"LET'S GO @domithiem"
Jaime, an emerging tennis player himself, has also expressed his love for Dominic Thiem on numerous occasions.
When Thiem emerged as the runner-up at the 2023 Generali Open in Kitzbuhel, Austria, the Austrian penned a note on Instagram to express his feelings about making it to the final for the first time since 2020. The young Alcaraz shared the post on his story to acknowledge the 30-year-old's brave performance.
The World No. 3 had revealed to Thiem that the Spaniard's younger brother was a fan of his, when the two shared comments below a video of Jaime's practice session, that was posted on the IMG Future Stars page. Jaime was seen using Thiem's racket rather than his elder brother's, which the Austrian poked fun at.
“He’s playing the right racket @carlitosalcarazz," Thiem commented
Carlos responded that Jaime loved Thiem and considered him as his Idol.
“@domithiem he loves you!! You are his idol.”
Carlos Alcaraz is set to defend his title at the 2024 Madrid Open next, Dominic Thiem will fight in qualifiers hoping to join him
Carlos Alcaraz will return to the Madrid Open to defend his title. Alcaraz, the two-time defending champion in both Madrid and Barcelona, had to pull out of the Barcelona Open due to an injury to his right forearm.
However, it seems as though the Spaniard will return to Madrid in a bid to achieve a three-peat. With Novak Djokovic's withdrawal from the tournament confirmed, Alcaraz will enter the tournament as the second seed.
Dominic Thiem, a two-time finalist and semifinalist, will have to play the qualifiers to play in the main draw, where he will join the likes of Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, Daniil Medvedev, and many others.
The main draw of the Madrid Open will begin on April 26.
