Carlos Alcaraz being cheered on and whistled at by the crowd after taking his shirt off has sparked discussions among tennis fans. Some feel that the Spaniard is being 'over-sexualized' by many tennis fans.

Alcaraz is one of the most prominent tennis players in the world right now and boasts a huge fan following. However, a recent incident at the Rod Laver Arena has made many feel a line was crossed.

Carlos Alcaraz reached the quarterfinals of the 2025 Australian Open after Jack Draper retired mid-match due to a hip issue. The Spaniard was leading 7-5, 6-1. While changing his shirt ahead of his on-court interview, a shirtless Alcaraz received massive cheers and whistles from the crowd.

Fans took to X (formerly Twitter) to call the crowd's behavior out. One fan felt the 21-year-old questioned if this type of behavior would be acceptable with a woman.

"Okay maybe I’m reaching but: He is over sexualized. This I persona after all, not a spectacle for us. [Imagine] this happening to a woman," the fan said.

Another fan felt men and women needed to be treated equally in such situations.

"Imagine if men did this with a female athlete. The woke would be out in force. FWIW it’s good harmless banter, but should go both ways," the fan opined.

Here are some other reactions from tennis fans.

"So later tonight, if I start audibly lusting after Kudermetova from the crowd, and shouting wow, it’s totally acceptable right? Or will I be a 'misogynist'?" a fan questioned.
"The whistling getting cat called at Rod Laver before it's even 5 PM noon is crazy," a fan remarked.
"Ngl this is weird as f**k from the crowd," a fan claimed.
"This is so weird. Those men and women in the crowd are pushing 60," another fan claimed.

Third seed Carlos Alcaraz will face seventh seed Novak Djokovic in a dream quarterfinal match at the 2025 Australian Open. This will be the eighth installment of their scintillating rivalry, led 4-3 by the Serb.

Djokovic will fancy his chances heading into this match considering he is an unprecedented 10-time champion in Melbourne and leads Alcaraz 2-0 on hard courts. However, the Spaniard is no stranger to doing the unthinkable and was the player who ended the Serb's dominance at Wimbledon in 2023.

Both players have given their thoughts on playing each other with Djokovic also claiming how his rivalry with Alcaraz reminded him of his legendary rivalry with Rafael Nadal, who is the 21-year-old's idol.
