Carlos Alcaraz has edged ahead of the 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic in the list of most searched athletes of 2023.

According to the list based on the number of times an athlete's name was searched across all social media platforms, Alcaraz occupies the seventh spot with 60 million searches. Closely behind the Spaniard in eighth position is Djokovic with 58.4 million searches.

Alcaraz and Djokovic have dominated the men's tennis circuit this season. They remain the only players to win a Grand Slam trophy this year. The Spaniard won Wimbledon in July with the other three Majors — Australian Open, French Open, and US Open — won by the Serb.

The tennis duo have come face-to-face three times so far in the 2023 season. Alcaraz bettered the 36-year-old in the final of the Championships in July, whereas the latter reigned supreme at the French Open (semifinal) and the Cincinnati Masters (final). They first met on the court at the Madrid Open (semifinal) in 2022 where the 20-year-old emerged victorious.

Alcaraz and Djokovic are the only tennis players to make it into the top 10 of the tally dominated by soccer giants including Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar Jr, and Lionel Messi.

Ronaldo sits in the pole position with a staggering 199.4 million searches for his name, followed by Neymar in the second spot with 140.9 million. Messi ranks third on the list with 104.4 million ahead of LeBron James, who was searched 72.1 million times on the web.

With 68 million searches, India's cricketing phenom Virat Kohli has secured fifth place and remains the only cricketer in the top 10. Paris Saint Germain's Kylian Mbappe (63.7 million), Manchester City's Erling Haaland (43.4 million), and British Formula 1 racer Lewis Hamilton (34.9) sit in sixth, ninth, and tenth positions, respectively (via Euro Es Euro).
