Former World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz's compatriot Pablo Llamas Ruiz recently spoke about the young Spaniard's extraordinary accomplishments on the ATP Tour so far.
Alcaraz has established himself as one of the best tennis players of this generation. The Spaniard has already won two Grand Slam titles — one at the 2022 US Open and the other at the 2023 Wimbledon Championships. He also became the World No. 1 last year after his exploits at Flushing Meadows.
Llamas Ruiz recently spoke with the ATP Tour and discussed his more successful compatriot's rapid rise. He lavished praise on Carlos Alcaraz, noting that one day he hopes to play in the same tournaments as the 20-year-old.
"I'm proud of that, I'm so happy for him. Hopefully, someday I can play in the same tournaments and on the same courts as him," he said.
"Everyone, as I always say, has their own path. He’s taken his, and he couldn’t have done any better, and I’ll try and take mine so that someday I can share the court with him and even try to catch him, why not?" he added.
Pablo Llamas Ruiz is currently hoping to have a strong campaign at the 2023 Next Gen ATP Finals, which will be hosted in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, from November 28 to December 2.
With his maiden ATP Challenger title win in Segovia, Spain, and his first ATP Tour win in Lyon this year, the 21-year-old has a great chance of qualifying for the year-ending tournament.
Carlos Alcaraz is suffering from injuries
Carlos Alcaraz recently withdrew from the 2023 Swiss Indoors Basel owing to injuries.
Tournament officials conveyed the news, saying that Alcaraz had to cancel his plans last minute due to an 'inflammation of the sole of his left foot' and issues with his gluteal muscle.
The ATP 500 tournament's social media account issued a statement on October 18:
"Injured Alcaraz has to cancel Basel, Stan Wawrinka moves up to the main draw. Alcaraz had to cancel his start at the Swiss Indoors (October 21-29) today due to an injury. According to his doctor's bulletin, the world number two is suffering from an inflammation of the sole of his left foot and problems in his gluteal muscles."
Following that, Carlos Alcaraz took to Instagram to confirm the news of his injuries and stated that he would undergo treatment to be fit for the rest of the season.
"Unfortunately I will not be able to play in Basel this year! I have a problem with the plantar fascia in my left foot and muscle fatigue in my lower back which need treatment so I can play the rest of the season. I hope to see you all soon!" Alcaraz wrote.
