Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz will face 12th seed Tommy Paul in the quarterfinals of Wimbledon 2024 on Tuesday, July 9. The Spaniard overcame a third-set stumbled in the fourth round to beat Ugo Humbert 6-3, 6-4, 1-6, 7-5.
Alcaraz previously survived a spirited challenge from Frances Tiafoe in the third round as he fought past him in five sets. He defeated Mark Lajal and Aleksandar Vukic in the first two rounds prior to that.
Paul commenced his campaign with a four-set win over Pedro Martinez, and earned a hard-fought win over Otto Virtanen in five sets after that. He beat Alexander Bublik in straight sets in the third round, and defeated Roberto Bautista Agut 6-2, 7-6 (4), 6-2 to make the quarterfinals here for the first time.
Alcaraz and Paul have an intense rivalry, which is currently deadlocked at two wins apiece for each player. The former won their most recent encounter at last year's Cincinnati Masters in three sets. The latter triumphed a week before that at the Canadian Open in three sets as well.
Alcaraz's other win came at last year's Miami Open in straight sets, while Paul reigned supreme in their very first encounter at the 2022 Canadian Open. This will be their first match outside of the United States, as well as hardcourts.
Paul is on a nine-match winning streak at the moment, having won the Cinch Championships prior to Wimbledon. Alcaraz is on an 11-match winning streak at the venue, as well as at the Majors.
Their previous matches were a rollercoaster affair, and this one is likely to be no different. With that in mind, here are all the details about their upcoming match:
