Carlos Alcaraz's agent Albert Molina recently revealed how he approached the Spaniard to become his representative at the age of 13. In a recent interview, Molina said that he had heard about the Spaniard's potential when he was just 11 years old. However, it was not until a year later that he actually started following him and mentioned how Alcaraz's level impressed him.

"The first time I saw him play I was 13 years old. At 11 I had already heard about him, I had seen some games, but at 12 I followed him more. I traveled to different cities in Spain where the tournaments were held and he began to surprise me," he was quoted as saying by El Partidazo de Cope (translated from Spanish).

The Spanish agent said that he had to approach Carlos Alcaraz's father, Carlos Sr. since he was only 12 years old. His dad was initially taken aback as to why anyone would want a client who was just 12. However, Molina managed to convince Carlos Sr. and got the go-ahead from him to sign his son.

"I started talking to Carlos Sr. because Carlitos was a child. I began to approach him, to tell him that his son had a lot of talent and one of the things I would like would be to start working with him. At first, he had doubts, he was surprised to have a representative for his son at 12 years old... But in the end, the father was convinced by the project," he added.

Albert Molina explained during the same interview that at the initial stages of a player's career, the work is more "logistical and informational support". He said:

"At 13 or 14 years old, our work is more of logistical and informational support. Although Carlos Sr. is a person with a lot of experience in tennis because he was a player and coach. But it is always good to have a person (from) outside, who has a different vision at a sporting level, to agree on and program Carlos's sporting structure at that time."

Molina said at the age of 13 things are easy, but it is after that stage that things start to become complicated, and mentioned that he began working with the Spaniard when he was 13.

"At 13 years old, it is easy, but then it becomes more complicated. I started working with Carlos at 13 years old," he added.

Carlos Alcaraz became the youngest man to be ranked World No. 1 in 2022 at the age of 19 and is also the youngest man to complete the Surface Slam - that is winning a Major on all three surfaces.
