Caroline Wozniacki stunned the tennis world earlier this year by announcing her return to tennis three years after retirement. The Dane will now be competing at the US Open for the first time since 2019.
The former World No. 1 hung up her racquet after the 2020 Australian Open. Since then, she has embraced motherhood by giving birth to two children -- a daughter named Olivia in 2021 and a son named James in 2022.
Caroline Wozniacki made her comeback at the Canadian Open but lost in the second round to reigning Wimbledon winner Marketa Vondrousova. She also suffered an early exit at the Cincinnati Open. At Flushing Meadows, Wozniacki has been handed a wildcard into the women's singles event, alongside the likes of Venus Williams and Storm Hunter.
During the pre-tournament press conference, the 33-year-old shed some light on her future plans concerning tennis. The veteran said that she would not be able to tell what the future holds for her, adding that she might continue to play for a year or two.
"I don't know how long I'm going to play for. I don't know if it's going to be a year, two years, three years. I can't predict the future," Wozniacki said.
The former Australian Open winner also stressed that she is not young. At the same time, she also mentioned how older players such as Venus Williams are still playing, saying:
"I also realize that I'm not that young anymore. I'm 33. Obviously you have Venus still playing. She's older than me. You have older players. At the same time I think what I've learned most is that you can't predict the future."
Caroline Wozniacki hoped to have a "great tournament" in New York this fortnight, further stating that she was planning to play a lot more next year.
"I'm just enjoying being here in the moment. I hope for a great tournament. I'm definitely planning on playing a lot more next year, playing more of a full schedule," she added.
Caroline Wozniacki is a two-time US Open finalist
Caroline Wozniacki is a two-time finalist at the US Open. The Dane reached her maiden US Open final in 2009, following which she also reached the final of the 2014 edition.
In 2009, the Dane was seeded ninth in the Major and lost the final to Kim Clijsters. The Belgian was a wildcard entrant in the tournament. In 2014, Wozniacki was the 10th seed and beat the likes of Peng Shuai and Sara Errani en route to the title bout. In the final, Caroline Wozniacki was up against Serena Williams and lost the title to the American.
In the current campaign, Wozniacki has been drawn in the same half as Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff, among others.
