Czech teenager Jakub Mensik made history by eliminating sixth seed Casper Ruud from the 2025 Australian Open in their second-round match. Several fans were disappointed to see the former World No. 2 face an early elimination, expressing their thoughts online.

Mensik asserted his dominance at the Margaret Court Arena, securing a 6-2 victory in the opening set. While the Norwegian responded with a 6-3 win in the second, the Czech swiftly regained control, clinching the third set 6-1. At 3-3 in the fourth set, Mensik seized the initiative breaking Ruud's serve to go ahead 4-3. He maintained his poise and closed the set 6-4, securing a landmark victory.

However, many fans were disappointed by Casper Ruud's performance and expressed dissatisfaction in their replies.

"Casper is a fraud. Soft player," one said.
"Such a clay court merchant. Can’t do nothing anywhere else in the world. Not even an upset anymore…" another wrote.
"Could see this coming from a mile away," a third fan said.

Here are a few more reactions from the tennis fans:

"Gorgeous men are losing in Australia :(" a fan commented.
"Seems like it's only Zverev (excluding Jannik and Carlos)who's capable of putting these upcoming players aside and that grates my teeth smh," another tweeted.
"250 man sent back to his kingdom," yet another wrote.

On Tuesday, January 13, 18-year-old Joao Fonseca ousted ninth seed Andrey Rublev. Mensik's victory over Ruud the following day marked the first time since 2006 that two teenagers have defeated top-10 players at a Major.

Jakub Mensik expressed contentment with his performance following the match. The 19-year-old highlighted the key factor contributing to his victory over Casper Ruud. He said (via Sportstar):

"I feel great. Casper was playing really good from the beginning, it was really tough. After the second set when it was 1-1, I just tried to play the same, focus on my game. That was a key for me today because against a player like this, best of five sets is not that easy."

Despite winning 51 of his 76 matches last season, Ruud’s Grand Slam performances fell short of his potential. The 26-year-old was eliminated in the third round at the 2024 Australian Open, the second round at Wimbledon, and the fourth round at the US Open. His best Grand Slam performance came at the French Open, where he reached the semifinals before falling to Alexander Zverev.

Mensik will next face the winner of the second-round clash between Felix Auger-Aliassime and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.
