The men's singles tournament at China Open 2024 came to an end on Wednesday (October 2), with Carlos Alcaraz winning it after beating World No. 1 Jannik Sinner in a thrilling final. The Spaniard will earn a prize money $695,750 for his exploits.
Alcaraz and Sinner locked horns for the 10th time and the former started strongly by taking a 4-1 lead in the opening set. However, the Italian bounced back and eventually won the set via a tiebreak.
Sinner threatened to break Alcaraz's serve a few times in the second set but the Spaniard eventually delivered a decisive break and won 6-4 to force the match into a decider. The World No. 3 broke his rival's serve in the third game of the final set and was close to a two-break lead.
However, Sinner broke back and eventually, a tiebreak ensued. The Italian took a 3-0 lead but Alcaraz won seven points in a row to register a 6-7(6), 6-4, 7-6(3) win and clinch his fourth title of the 2024 season.
The Spaniard's triumph will fetch him a prize money of $695,750 while Sinner will receive $374,340 for his runner-up finish.
Third seed Daniil Medvedev and Bu Yunchaokete both reached the semifinals in Beijing and they will each earn $199,495. Russians Andrey Rublev and Karen Khachanov both saw their respective China Open campaigns end in the quarterfinals. They, along with Flavio Cobolli and Jiri Lehecka, will pocket $101,925 each.
The eight players who lost in the second round of the ATP 500 event will each receive $54,405 while those who were out in the opening round of the main draw will get $29,015.
Players who were unable to make it to the main draw of China Open 2024 will also receive prize money. Those who lost in the second qualifying round will each earn $14,870 while the individuals who were out in the first round of qualifying will bag $8,340 each.

Top seeds Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori won the men's doubles title at the China Open by defeating third seeds Harri Heliovaara and Henry Patten 4-6, 6-3 [10-5] in the final.
The Italians will receive a prize money of $228,510 for their triumph while the Finnish-British duo will earn $121,870. Nikola Mektic and Wesley Koolhof, and Jamie Murray and John Peers were both eliminated in the semifinals. Each pair will pocket $61,660.
The teams who were eliminated in the quarterfinals will each receive a prize money of $30,830 while the pairs who lost in the first round will bag $15,960 each.
