"Classless Americans, go watch football" - Fans miffed after Travis Kelce says he wanted to 'heckle' Jannik Sinner in US Open final

Fans were disappointed with NFL star Travis Kelce's comments about wanting to 'heckle' Jannik Sinner at the 2024 US Open final against Taylor Fritz. Kelce, who attended the match with his girlfriend Taylor Swift, eventually played 'respectful' and did not heckle.

Sinner defeated Fritz in the recently held US Open final in straight sets at the Arthur Ashe Stadium. The venue was filled with celebrities, including Kansas City Chiefs star Kelce and his girlfriend Taylor Swift.

Kelce felt that the event was 'very quiet' and said that he is not 'a quiet person.' Here's what he said during the 'New Heights' podcast:

"I’ve always been the kid in the back of the class when it gets quiet, say something smart or say something funny, at least try to get a rise out of people. So the entire time I wanted to heckle the Italian, Sinner."

The NFL tight end's comments were posted on X with the caption:

"this is so embarrassing"

Fans expressed their disappointment with Kelce's comments, with one stating that he should stay away from tennis. They wrote,

"Individuals like this need to stay away from tennis. Classless Americans. Go watch some football or something."

"you know it's bad when you have the urge to protect jannik sinner from taylor swift's personal ugly man," another fan wrote.

"Bro this guy's 34 and still acting like this?" asked one fan.

"This coming from a grown man in his thirties is crazy," yet another fan wrote.

Some fans, however, defended Kelce as he explained that, eventually, he refrained from heckling.

"What are you mad about? He didn't do anything," one fan wrote.

"After reading all the comments. I come to the conclusion that you all are not only dumb but also soft as hell. There’s nothing wrong with this," another fan wrote.

Although Travis Kelce shared that he wanted to heckle Jannik Sinner to help Taylor Fritz, the NFL star refrained from the act. He even joked that they may have removed him from the stadium if he did so.

"I played it cool, I played it respectful, knowing that's kind of frowned upon. I'm sure if I started heckling like the guy did in Happy Gilmore [...] if it had gotten to that point, I'm sure I would've been asked to leave," Kelce said during the 'New Heights' podcast.

Kelce also said that he only showed his personality during the intermissions at the event when music was being played. The 34-year-old was spotted enjoying his time with girlfriend Taylor Swift. They were also joined by Kelce's teammate Patrick Mahomes and his wife Brittany.
