Coco Gauff, Danielle Collins, Jessica Pegula, and other players from the WTA have reached the French capital, ready to represent the United States at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The players recently gave a glimpse of their uniforms.
At the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, the WTA stars who represented the United States were Bethanie Mattek-Sands, Alison Riske-Amritraj, Nicole Melichar-Martinez, Jennifer Brady, and Jessica Pegula. Pegula will be representing her country at the quadrennial event for the second time.
On Tuesday, Emma Navarro shared a photo on her Instagram story featuring herself, Coco Gauff, Jessica Pegula, Danielle Collins, and Desirae Krawczyk. All smiles, the tennis stars stood together, wearing matching outfits that displayed American colors ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics. They were dressed in white jackets with the word "USA" emblazoned on them and white cargo pants. They completed the look by wearing white Brooks shoes.
The last time the United States won Olympic medals in tennis was at the Rio Games in 2016, where the mixed doubles final featured an all-American matchup. The partnership of Jack Sock and Bethanie Mattek-Sands defeated Venus Williams and Rajeev Ram, securing both the gold and silver medals for the US.
Over the past two decades, the Williams sisters dominated the tennis category at the Olympic Games. In the doubles division, Serena Williams and her sister Venus Williams first won gold at the Sydney Olympics in 2000. They went on to win gold in Beijing (2008) and London (2012) as well.
A sneak peek at Coco Gauff's and Danielle Collins' 2024 season as they prepare for Paris Olympics 2024
Coco Gauff and Danielle Collins have both had spectacular seasons thus far. Collins announced at the beginning of the season her plans to retire at the end of the season due to her health condition and her plans to have a family. Following her announcement, she went on to have the best season of her career and returned to the WTA top 10.
The 30-year-old won the biggest title of her career at the 2024 Miami Open by defeating fourth seed Elena Rybakina in the final. She also went on to win her fourth WTA title at the Charleston Open by defeating Daria Kasatkina in the final.
Gauff, on the other hand, clinched her first title of the season at the ASB Classic in Auckland, where she defeated Elina Svitolina in the final. She also reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open and the French Open.
In the doubles category, Gauff partnered with Kateřina Siniaková to defeat Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini in the final of the French Open, winning her first Major in doubles. Gauff also reached the final of the Italian Open, partnering with Erin Routliffe. However, they were outclassed by the Italian duo of Jasmine Paolini and Sara Errani in the summit clash.
