Coco Gauff after winning United Cup 2025: “I have the belief that I’m one of the best players in the world"
During the post match on-court interview after defeating Iga Swiatek in the final of the 2025 United Cup, Coco Gauff attributed her win over the former World No.1 to her belief that she is one of the "best players" in the world.
“I think I have the belief now that I’m one of the best players in the world. I think I played great tennis . I’m happy to get a point on board for team USA. It was tough today, I’m not gonna lie. There’s a lot of Polish fans. I appreciate the atmosphere. Thank you to the US fans. Especially the ones up here that were carrying,” Gauff said.
Gauff revealed that she approached the final with the mindset that the worst-case scenario would be losing her singles match, but Team USA could still emerge victorious in the tournament . She said that this mentality relieved the pressure on her shoulders and allowed her to play more freely and ultimately secure the win.
“I realized the worst thing that can happen is I lose. In this type of format, even if I lose we still have a chance to win. I just said ‘I’m gonna give my best effort’ and I think that’s all the team can ask of me,” she added.
Looking ahead, Gauff will next compete at the 2025 Australian Open, scheduled to take place from January 12 to January 26, 2025. Last year, she made it to the semifinals before bowing out to the eventual champion, Aryna Sabalenka.
