Renowned American hurdler Alaysha Johnson recently shared her experience of being "starstruck" by American tennis sensation Coco Gauff. Her anecdote later received a positive reaction from Serena Williams' husband and tech entrepreneur Alexis Ohanian.
Johnson was recently featured in a video shared by Athlos on Instagram. The 28-year-old was starstruck when Coco Gauff recognized her at the Olympics. After helping Aleia Hobbs request a photo, Johnson was pleasantly surprised after Gauff acknowledged her unique style, mentioning her frozen glasses and self-made uniforms.
Apart from her achievements on the track, Johnson has also gained recognition for wearing self-designed kits during the competitions.
"They asked was I starstruck by anybody at the Olympics? Actually Coco Gauff. Aleia Hobbs wanted to take a picture with Coco Gauff, and she was super scared. So I went over and I'm like, "Miss Coco, can we get a picture? She said, I know who you are. You're the girl that wears the frozen glasses and makes her own uniform." And I was like you know me?" She said.
The hurdler admitted she was starstruck, noting that Gauff ended last year as the highest-paid female athlete with earnings of $30 million. She humorously suggested becoming the 20-year-old's assistant.
"And she said I am on everybody's Pinterest board. I didn't say it, Coco said it. I was starstruck when she said it, because she's the highest paid female athlete this year. $30 million, I am like do you need an assistant? I can make you uniform. Do they do that?" She added.
Serena Williams' husband and founder of Athlos NYC re-shared the clip on his Instagram story, showing his appreciation for the humorous and heartwarming experience.
"Here for Coco Gauff and Alaysha Johnson," Ohanian wrote, mentioning the athletes' Instagram handles.
Ohanian, who co-founded Reddit in 2005, now heads the venture capital firm Seven Seven Six. In September, the 41-year-old organized Athlos NYC, an all-female track meet held at Icahn Stadium, featuring 36 athletes. The event also reflected Ohanian's ongoing commitment to promoting women's sports.
Serena Williams' husband, Alexis Ohanian, predicted a billion-dollar women's sports franchise in the coming years
Alexis Ohanian, Serena Williams' husband, participated in Sportico's Women's Sports Panel in December last year. When asked whether a billion-dollar women's sports franchise could materialize within the next five years, the 41-year-old expressed confidence, asserting,
"Yes, for sure," Ohanian responded.
He shared the clip on his Instagram and wrote in the captions:
"As I said at the @sportico Business of Women’s Sports Panel, there will be a $B women’s sports franchise by 2030. Mark my words."
Ohanian is a dedicated advocate for women's sports, often voicing his support across social media and various platforms. He has taken substantial measures to advance the cause, including becoming a key shareholder in NWSL team Angel City FC and making the largest-ever donation to the University of Virginia's basketball program.
