Tennis insider Jon Wertheim shared his thoughts on Coco Gauff's victory over Iga Swiatek at the 2025 United Cup. He said the American was playing on a different level and that she had finally figured out a way to outplay the Pole.

Before the 2024 WTA Finals, Gauff had a daunting 1-11 head-to-head record against Swiatek. However, she managed to secure two wins in a row — one at last year’s year-ending championships and another at this year’s United Cup — narrowing the gap to 3-11.

Speaking to Tennis Channel, Wertheim said the former US Open champion's efforts to refine the technical aspects of her game are finally paying off. He also noted that this puts her in a strong position for the upcoming Australian Open.

"Coco is in such a different spot than she was just a few months ago. Some of this is two straight wins over Iga under different conditions, but both high-pressure, high-stake matches," he said.
"This team competition, Coco won a million dollars last week, so there's a lot riding on this event. She has figured out Iga. She has outcompeted her. The little technical adjustments she has made are really paying off," he added.

Coco Gauff's 6-4, 6-4 win over Iga Swiatek in the 2025 United Cup final gave Team USA a 1-0 lead over Team Poland. Taylor Fritz followed up with a 6-4, 5-7, 7-6(4) victory against Hubert Hurkacz, securing the title for the Americans for the second time.

At a press conference afterwards, Gauff shared her thoughts on defeating the World No. 2. She said starting the season with such a win gave her a lot of confidence, which will help her in the upcoming Australian Open.

"I mean, honestly before every Grand Slam, I have the belief that I can win, and especially after US Open, I proved that I could do it. I definitely have belief that I can win," the American said.
"Obviously, this start of the season gives me a lot of confidence. I feel like when I'm playing confident tennis I'm playing great tennis. I definitely feel confident going into AO," she added.

Swiatek is expected to be the second seed and Gauff the third seed in Melbourne. Neither player has won the tournament before.
