Serena Williams' ex-coach Rennae Stubbs commented on the WTA Tour finals group stage match between Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff. This was Swiatek and Gauff's third clash in this 2024 season.

This 2024 WTA Finals match was a close encounter between these two top circuit players. Despite Gauff committing 11 double faults, the match ultimately swung in her favor. The American player defeated Swiatek in straight sets 6-3, 6-4. Gauff converted 5 of her possible 12 breaks during the match to pull off her first victory against the Pole in 2024.

Impressed by this match, Stubbs took to her X (formerly Twitter) handle to appreciate the quality of tennis both the players displayed. She also addressed fans who had been criticizing the entertainment quotient of women's tennis. Stubbs wrote:

"This tennis is REAL good from @CocoGauff and @iga_swiatek!! Also if i read 1 more thing on this site about women’s tennis not being entertaining or worth watching, turn on your tv to the TC & watch this match & if you’re still negative about women’s tennis, unfollow me."

With this victory over Swiatek, Gauff is now in an advantageous position with two consecutive victories in the tournament. Her next opponent in the group stage is current World No.13 Barbora Krejcikova.

Coco Gauff defeated her countrymate, Jessica Pegula in her opening match of the 2024 WTA Finals. The 20-year-old beat Pegula in straight sets 6-3, 6-2 to register her second overall victory against Pegula.

Even though Gauff committed two double faults during the match, she resurrected her dominance and converted 5 out of her possible 8 breakpoints. Following this impressive victory, Gauff mentioned in a post-match interview that she was able to win the important points of the match. She stated (via ABC News):

"I thought we both were playing high level. I just think I was able to break through on the more important points.”

Iga Swiatek, on the other hand, defeated Barbora Krejcikova in three sets to set the tone for her Tour finals. The Czech got the better of Swiatek in the first set of the match, beating her 6-4. However, the Polish player made a good comeback to clinch the next two sets to 7-5, 6-2.7.
