Coco Gauff laughs off her 'rookie' struggles while popping champagne during Team USA's United Cup celebrations

Coco Gauff had a laugh at her "rookie" struggles while popping a bottle of champagne during Team USA's celebration of them winning the 2025 United Cup. The USA secured their second United Cup title this year by defeating Poland in the final, with their first title win coming in the inaugural edition, in 2023, when they defeated Italy in the final.

In this year's final against Poland, the American team took an early lead with Gauff winning her match against Iga Swiatek 6-4, 6-4. Taylor Fritz then sealed the victory by defeating Hubert Hurkacz 6-4, 5-7, 7-6(4) to secure a 2-0 win and claim the 2025 United Cup.

Following their win, Team USA celebrated by popping several champagne bottles, with the official United Cup social media account sharing a video of the celebrations. In the video, Gauff can be seen struggling to open a bottle of champagne, but she eventually succeeds and has a good laugh.

“USA, USA !!!! 🇺🇸 🥂 ," the United Cup captioned their Instagram post.

Gauff also shared the United Cup's video on social media, explaining that her difficulty opening the champagne bottle was due to it being her first time. She humorously labeled herself as a "rookie" in the champagne-popping department.

“First time popping a bottle lol #rookie," Gauff captioned her Instagram story.

Coco Gauff made her tournament debut at the 2025 United Cup. She, along with Taylor Fritz, led the American team to victories over Canada and Croatia in the group stages. The team then defeated China and the Czech Republic in the quarterfinals and semifinals, respectively, to secure their spot in the final.

Coco Gauff will next compete at Australian Open 2025

Following the conclusion of her campaign at the 2025 United Cup, Coco Gauff will next compete at the Australian Open which is set to take place from January 12 to January 26, 2025.

In 2024, Gauff entered the tournament as the fourth seed and started strong by defeating Anna Karolina Schmiedlova 6-3, 6-0 in the first round. She then went on to beat fellow American Caroline Dolehide 7-6(2), 6-2 in the second round

The 20-year-old continued her winning streak by triumphing over Alycia Parks 6-0, 6-2 and Magdalena Frech 6-1, 6-2 in the third and fourth rounds, respectively. In the quarterfinals, Coco Gauff defeated Marta Kostyuk, ultimately securing a 7-6(6), 6-7(3), 6-2 win. However, her campaign came to an end in the semifinals when she was defeated by the eventual champion, Aryna Sabalenka, with a score of 6-7(2), 4-6.
