Coco Gauff has expressed confidence in being able to beat anyone when playing at her best, after defeating Iga Swiatek in the United Cup final. The American displayed aggressive gameplay, breaking through Swiatek's formidable defence. Gauff secured a crucial lead for Team USA by defeating the Polish star in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4.

This marked Gauff's second consecutive victory over the former World No. 1, following her breakthrough win in the second round of the 2024 WTA Finals. That triumph was Gauff's second in 11 encounters against Swiatek. During her on-court interview after the match, Gauff said:

“I have the belief that I’m one of the best players in the world. Today, I think I played some great tennis. I’m glad to get a point on board for team USA. It was tough today, I’m not gonna lie. There’s a lot of Polish fans. I appreciate the atmosphere. Thank you to the US fans. Especially the ones up here that were carrying.”

Despite Swiatek's calm and composed demeanour, Gauff's free-flowing style of play ultimately stole the spotlight. The first set saw Swiatek leading 3-2 early on, but Gauff weathered the storm and dominated the second set to secure victory. The match drew support from fans of both players, creating an electric atmosphere as spectators enjoyed the high-stakes battle between the World No. 2 and World No. 3.

On being asked about winning the last 17 matches out of 20 and the belief that it gives her in tough moments, Gauff replied:

"I realized the worst thing that can happen today is I lose. In this type of format, even if I lose we still have r a chance to win. I just said ‘I’m gonna give my best effort’ and I think that’s all the team can ask of me."

This statement shows that Gauff is playing fearlessly, making it challenging for other players to beat her. Her intrepid attitude towards the sport has been significant in her recent performances.

At the United Cup, Gauff shined in her debut season by winning all five of her singles matches without dropping a set. Her stellar performance put Team USA in a commanding position, paving the way for Taylor Fritz to seal the victory.

Fritz secured the crucial victory for Team USA, defeating Hubert Hurkacz in a gripping match 6-4, 5-7, 7-6(4). Poland, last season's runners-up, once again fell short of turning their fortunes around in the summit clash.

This Sunday delivered several pulsating contests for tennis fans worldwide, perfectly setting the stage for the highly anticipated Australian Open in Melbourne, starting on January 12.
