Coco Gauff has expanded her influence beyond tennis by becoming the latest sponsor of Unrivaled, a women's 3v3 basketball league. The inaugural season of the league begins on January 17, 2025, in Miami, with players like Angel Reese, Cameron Brink, Brittney Griner, and Skylar Diggins-Smith leading the charge, along with 30 other players announced so far.

Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart started a new league in 2023. It allows WNBA players to play in the U.S. during the offseason, avoiding the league's rule favoring overseas play. Games are held on smaller courts and have four seven-minute quarters.

On Tuesday, it was announced via the league's official social media that Coco Gauff has joined as one of their major sponsors. Other high-profile athletes who have also invested in the league include two-time NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, 23-time Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps, NBA legend Carmelo Anthony, actor Ashton Kutcher, businessman Dan Rosensweig, and others.

In a statement posted on the league's website, Gauff said that basketball is one of her favorite sports and expressed excitement about investing in Unrivaled and helping grow women’s sports.

“I’m thrilled to be joining Unrivaled as an investor,” said Coco Gauff. “Basketball is one of my favorite sports, and the chance to support a league that’s redefining the game is exciting. I look forward to being part of this movement and continuing to help elevate women’s sports to new heights.”

Coco Gauff has always been open about her love for basketball over the years. After her second-round win against Mirra Andreeva at the 2023 US Open, she mentioned her friendship with NBA player Jimmy Butler, who was present at the tournament. She particularly spoke about how his mentality has helped her become a better tennis player.

"I think he's just one of those athletes [where] the mentality makes his game even better. You have people that are talented and don't have the mentality. I think he has the talent and the mentality. It's just taking him even further.
"Between Wimbledon and the next tournament I played, nothing could have really changed that much. It was really just the mental thing. I think that's what I learned from watching Jimmy compete over the years." - Gauff said

Gauff has made a strong start to her 2025 season, playing a key role in helping the United States win their second United Cup title with a win over Poland in the final on Sunday. She will next compete at the Australian Open, which begins on Sunday, January 12. This will be her sixth appearance at the tournament as she aims to surpass her semifinal finish from last season.
