Coco Gauff opened up about plans for her 21st birthday after she defeated Jodie Burrage in the third round of the 2025 Australian Open. The American revealed that her friends want her to party but she is not a "huge party person."
Gauff continued her stellar start to the 2025 season with another victory in Melbourne, defeating Britain's Burrage 6-3, 7-5 to advance to the third round. During her post-match on-court interview, the 20-year-old was asked about her upcoming 21st birthday, which is less than two months away (March 13).
Gauff shared that she is not much of a "party person" and might celebrate with escape rooms and drinks with her parents.
"I don't know. I'll be at Indian Wells. I'm not really like a huge party person, so I love escape rooms. I'll probably want to do an escape room. Yeah, I don't know, maybe have a drink with my parents. Probably not during the tournament. I mean, I was legal everywhere else except the US, so I don't think that much would change because I travel a lot.
But yeah, I don't know. I know my friends want me to go and have a party in Miami and do something crazy, but I'm an athlete, so, like, you know, this is my thrill, being here. So, yeah, I don't know," Coco Gauff said.
Building on her triumph at the 2024 WTA Finals, Gauff has carried her inspired momentum into 2025, winning all seven singles matches this season. Her stellar performances at the United Cup earlier this month earned her the MVP award. She revealed the inspiration and work she put into the 2024 offseason, which has laid the foundation for her impressive early success this year.
Coco Gauff opens up about preparations during offseason for a successful 2025
During her on-court interview, Coco Gauff was asked about her offseason preparations that have consistently helped her start seasons in fine shape. Notably, she began her campaigns with titles in Auckland in 2023 and 2024.
"Just a lot of practice and physical preparation and working hard," Gauff said. "There is a book, I read, that, basically, says that inches turn into miles eventually. So, everyday matters. And, that’s not just in tennis but in life where everyday matters."
A challenging third-round clash awaits Gauff as she faces 30th-seed Canadian Leylah Fernandez. The duo recently squared off at the United Cup, where the American secured a straight-sets victory.
