Coco Gauff recenty expressed that she was pleased to find herself featured alongside Serena Williams, Simone Biles, and other American champions on a Wheaties cereal box in a fan's pantry. Gauff earned her spot on the box by winning the 2023 US Open title.
Wheaties is an iconic American breakfast cereal brand that has a long history of featuring athletes who have made an impact on their respective sports. The tradition began in 1934 with the slogan, "The Breakfast of Champions."
The first tennis player to be featured on a Wheaties box was Ellsworth Vines in 1934 and the first female tennis player to be featured was Chris Evert in 1987.
Gauff was featured on the Wheaties box ahead of the 2024 US Open, with a nod to her title win at the New York major in 2023, where she defeated Aryna Sabalenka in the final. She succeeded American tennis icon Billie Jean King to be featured on the box.
A fan recently shared a photo of their Wheaties box collection, which included Gauff, Serena Williams, Simone Biles, and other American champions. Reacting to the fan's post, the World No. 3 wrote on her Instagram stories:
“Love it!!!"
Speaking about being featured on the Wheaties box, Gauff said [via NBC New York Sport]:
“It is an honor to be on the Wheaties box, especially as the legendary Billie Jean King passes the historic ‘Wheaties Champion’ title onto me. I’ve had so many role models in this sport help guide my professional and personal journey, and I hope to keep empowering the next generation to also work hard and dream big.”
