Coco Gauff's younger brother, Codey, has taken note of Juan Soto's record-breaking $765M contract with the New York Mets. As a budding baseball player himself, Codey sees it as an inspiration and hopes to make his own mark in the baseball world someday.
After much speculation about which team would ultimately acquire Juan Soto, he chose the Mets, leaving the Yankees behind. He entered free agency after his former team lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series championship in October.
The Dominican star's new deal is the largest contract in professional sports history, a 15-year agreement that runs through 2039. It includes a $75M signing bonus and could exceed $800M with performance incentives.
Amid the buzz surrounding Juan Soto's record-breaking deal, Coco Gauff's brother, Codey, reacted to the news on his Instagram Stories on December 10. He shared a post featuring the baseball star and details of his massive Mets contract but chose not to add a caption, letting the post speak for itself.
Codey is the middle child of the Gauff family. His older sister, Coco, is already one of America's greatest tennis players, while his younger brother, Cameron, is into football.
Codey played high school baseball with Elite Squad Academy and has recently committed to play for the Missouri Tigers at the University of Missouri for the 2026 season.
"They both worked hard growing up" - Coco Gauff's father Corey on daughter and son Codey's passion for sports
Coco Gauff's father, Corey, has been instrumental in shaping her tennis career, serving as her first coach and introducing her to the sport. He has also supported his son, Codey, in his baseball journey.
In a June 2024 interview with USA Baseball, Corey shared his joy in watching his children grow and discover their passions in the sporting world.
"It's been good to see them grow up and compete in the sports that they love while also keeping their academics first. I like that they still want to learn and get better everyday," he said.
The American added:
"Coco chose what she wanted to do very early on. Codey played football for a little bit and some basketball, kind of arriving at baseball a little bit later in life than Coco did with tennis, but they both worked really hard growing up. They both have unique skill sets in their respective sports. It’s been great to watch them grow."
Coco Gauff often credits her family for their constant support throughout her tennis career, particularly after winning her maiden Grand Slam at the US Open in 2023. She also takes pride in her brothers’ accomplishments, frequently cheering them on.
