Coco Gauff's mother Candi gives shoutout to American's Australian Open day & night outfit

Coco Gauff has always been known for her flair in fashion, and her New Balance kit for the first Grand Slam of the year has continued to draw attention. Her mother, Candi, recently gave the 20-year-old a shoutout for wearing different outfits during day and night matches at the 2025 Australian Open.

On Wednesday, Gauff continued her quest for the title in Melbourne by defeating Jodie Burrage in the second round of the tournament, 6-3, 7-5. This was Burrage's first appearance in the main draw of the tournament after failing to qualify in 2023 and 2024.

After the match, Coco Gauff's mom, Candi, shared a photo on her Instagram story showing a collage of Gauff in her superhero-inspired outfit. She wore the ash-colored version in her first-round match against Sofia Kenin and the lemon-green version in the second-round against Jodie Burrage. The collage labeled the ash outfit as the "Day Kit" and the lemon-green outfit as the "Night Kit."

After her first-round match on Monday, Coco Gauff was asked about the inspiration behind the outfit design and she responded:

“I’m a huge Marvel fan, and a lot of the female superheroes have cool cut-outs on their outfits. That’s what I wanted to do. New Balance has great designers; it’s actually kind of a pain to get into because it is a bodysuit, guys! I have to put the bottom part first and pull it over my head."

"It’s kind of a struggle, and if you can’t hold your bladder, it’s also not a good idea. You have to sacrifice for fashion!,” she added.

Coco Gauff will gear up to face Leylah Fernandez in the third round of the year's first Grand Slam tournament.

After defeating Sofia Kenin and Jodie Burrage in the first and second rounds, Coco Gauff will face Canada’s Leylah Fernandez in the third round of the 2025 Australian Open on Friday, January 17.

Gauff is competing in her second tournament of the season. After securing back-to-back titles at the ASB Classic, she took on a new challenge by joining the United States team to make her debut at the United Cup. The team had an outstanding run, winning the title for the second time since the tournament's inception in 2022.

Leylah Fernandez, on the other hand, began her Australian Open campaign by defeating Yuliia Starodubtseva in the first round and triumphing over Spain’s Cristina Bucșa 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 in the second round.

Fernandez and Gauff have faced each other only once before and this will be their second meeting in just three weeks. Their first encounter was at the United Cup, where Gauff, representing the United States, defeated Fernandez, who played for Canada.
