Coco Gauff & Serena Williams' ex-coach react as WNBA star Sabrina Ionescu celebrates her marriage, Olympic gold & other landmarks on 27th birthday

Coco Gauff and Rennae Stubbs sent their best wishes to WNBA star Sabrina Ionescu on her birthday on December 6, turning 27.

Ionescu had an incredible year, as she was a part of the American team that won the gold in the women's basketball event at the Paris Olympics. She also helped the New York Liberty to their maiden WNBA Championship.

The 27-year-old highlighted the above achievements, along with her marriage to NFL player Hroniss Grasu, while sharing a series of images on Instagram on Ionescu's birthday. Ionescu joked that she was getting a thumb surgery as her birthday present.

"26, thank you. Married my best friend, won a gold medal, and a WNBA championship, all in the same year. God is good. Beyond grateful for everything this year had to offer, and thankful for everyone a part of my circle. 27… Let’s get it! PS: getting my thumb fixed was quite the bday present," Ionescu captioned her image.

Coco Gauff and Rennae Stubbs were among the people who reacted to Sabrina Ionescu's birthday post, with the 20-year-old saying:

"Happy birthday champ!!!"

Serena Williams' former coach Rennae Stubbs also wished the 27-year-old WNBA star, stating:

"Happy Bday, Sabrina."

The Aussie also reacted to one of the New York Liberty star's pictures, which was that of her drying her hair. Stubbs said:

"Also the hair drying !! I'm dead."

Coco Gauff spoke on Sabrina Ionescu's 3-point duel against Stephen Curry

Earlier this year, Gauff spoke on Sabrina Ionescu facing NBA star Stephen Curry at the NBA All-Star Weekend. Curry edged out Ionescu 29-26.

During the Dubai Tennis Championships, the 20-year-old lauded Ionescu, calling her performance "incredible".

"I think what she did was incredible, especially also shooting from the NBA line," Gauff said, as quoted by the WTA. "There's a lot of people saying that she should have shot from the WNBA line, that that would have mattered.

Coco Gauff wrapped up her 2024 season in the best possible manner, as she won the WTA Finals after edging out Zheng Qinwen 3-6, 6-4, 7-6(2) in the title clash. This was the American's third tournament win of the year, as she had won the China Open as well as the ASB Classic in Auckland.

In Grand Slams, the 20-year-old reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open and French Open, while suffering fourth-round exits at Wimbledon and the US Open. Overall, the American ended 2024 with 54 wins out of 71 matches, attaining a ranking of World No. 3..
