Holger Rune has clarified that comparing him to Nadal, Djokovic or Federer at such a young stage in his career is ridiculous after a comment he made regarding being a part of the future Big 3 was taken out of context.
Rune, who started playing professionally on the tour two years ago, has clarified his comments on being a part of the future Big 3 alongside Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz.
A publication on Twitter quoted Rune as saying that the next Big 3 will be himself, Italy's Jannik Sinner and Spain's Carlos Alcaraz. The Twitter account then posed a question to fans asking them who they think the next Big 3 will be.
"Holger Rune : "The next Big 3 will be Alcaraz, Sinner and myself." And you, who do you see in the New Big 3?" the account posted
The misquote did not sit well with the Dane and he clarified his stance on the matter. Rune stated that aiming for the Big 3 is every player's dream and that comparing himself to Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic is absurd as they have been on tour for more than 20 years.
"I was asked if I would like to see myself as the next big 3. Who wouldn’t? That said I think comparing is ridiculous. I have been playing the pro tour for 2 years. Impossible to compare with results from guys with 20 years on tour. Let’s just enjoy some good tennis right now" Rune clarified.
