Unusual events transpired in Stuttgart when the sponsors of the ATP 250 grasscourt event, BOSS, acknowledged that they had personalized the final prize, a bike, for Matteo Berrettini after Jack Draper emerged victorious. Subsequently, the sponsors promised to present Draper with a new bike in celebration of his first ATP title triumph.
Berrettini used his protected ranking to enter the main draw of the 2024 BOSS Open. He kicked off his campaign by defeating eighth seed Roman Safiullin 7-6(8), 5-7, 7-6 in the first round. He then overcame Denis Shapovalov 6-4, 6-4 in the second round.
In the quarterfinals, the Italian defeated qualifier James Duckworth 6-4, 7-5 and then faced off against his compatriot and fifth seed Lorenzo Musetti in the semifinals and defeated him 6-4, 6-0 to secure a spot in the final.
Meanwhile, seeded sixth, Jack Draper began his BOSS Open campaign by defeating Sebastian Ofner 7-6(4), 7-6(5) in the first round. He then went on to defeat American Marcos Giron 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 in the second round to secure a spot in the quarterfinals.
In the last eight, Draper faced fourth seed and defending champion Frances Tiafoe, and overcame him in a tough match that ended 5-7, 6-4, 7-6(1). He then proceeded to defeat Brandon Nakashima 6-3, 6-3 in the semifinals to move to the final in Stuttgart.
In the championship match, Jack Draper emerged victorious over Matteo Berrettini with a score of 3-6, 7-6(5), 6-4 to claim his first career ATP Tour title. He also became the first British player to win the ATP 250 grasscourt title since the tournament's inception in 1949.
Following his win, at the trophy presentation ceremony, Jack Draper was also awarded a bike as a prize.

Following his loss to Jack Draper in the final of the 2024 BOSS Open, Matteo Berrettini spoke highly of his opponent during his runner-up speech. He congratulated Draper on his victory and expressed that the Brit would go on to achieve many more titles.
"Congrats to Jack. Unbelievable week. Unbelievable match. I was so close," Berrettini said. "This one is going to hurt for a little bit, but that's tennis. I've won matches like this, I've lost matches like this. I'm sure this guy is going to lift more trophies. Unbelievable week. Good luck for the upcoming tournaments,” Matteo Berrettini said.
Draper, who secured his first ATP Tour title stated that he was elated to win the titlr. He also extended his gratitude to all those who had supported him.
"It's incredible. Just thank you so much for the support. It was a really, really tough match. But I'm really happy to win my first title. It means so much to me," Draper said.
Jack Draper's title win at the 2024 BOSS Open has propelled him up the world rankings by 10 spots to No.30. This achievement also means that he will be the new British No.1 player.
