Ons Jabeur's withdrawal after the draw for the 2024 US Open was made has disappointed fans, who believed the Tunisian decided to look at her draw and proceed accordingly. Jabeur was placed in the same quarter as the likes of second-seeded Aryna Sabalenka, who was the runner-up last year, Daria Kasatkina, Zheng Qinwen, and Madison Keys.
The 29-year-old has been struggling with form for over a year and the former World No. 2 is currently ranked 17. Jabeur has failed to win a title this year and has a poor 16-14 win/loss record this season. She faced early exits in Wimbledon and the Australian Open but reached the quarterfinals of the French Open.
Seeded 17th, Jabeur withdrew from the New York Major due to a shoulder injury and will be replaced by Elise Mertens in the main draw making the Belgian the 33rd seed.
Fans expressed disappointment at Ons Jabeur's late decision and felt that the Tunisian took this decision after looking at her draw. One fan mentioned that she could have withdrawn before the draws were out.
"Could have whitdrawn before the draws were made," the fan mentioned.
Another fan said how Jabeur saw Sabalenka in her quarter and decided to withdraw.
"Saw Sabalenka in the draw and withdrew," the fan said.
Here are some other reactions from the fans.
"After the draw? Come on," a fan said.
"hate to say this, but she should have withdrawn 5 or 6 hours earlier 16 players could have different seeded locations. there was zero chance that she was playing this week," a fan opined.
"I knew she was going to withdraw but why didn't she do this before the draw. This is so sad to watch," a fan pondered.
"Lol, waited for the draw to see her chances, saw she got dropped in sabalenka's quarter... decided f**k this shit & dipped," a fan joked.

Life has ups and downs, but sometimes in the very negative moments we all need to find the positive in it. This year has been very tough for me, but I know somewhere the light is there," she wrote.
