Felix Auger-Aliassime's girlfriend Nina Ghaibi expressed pride as the Canadian recently showed off his maiden Olympics bronze medal. Auger-Aliassime made history at the 2024 Paris Olympics by winning his first medal in the mixed doubles event with partner Gabriela Dabrowski.
The Canadian had a decent performance in Paris, competing in men's singles, doubles, and mixed doubles. The 23-year-old advanced to the singles semifinals but was defeated 6-1, 6-1 by Carlos Alcaraz in a one-sided match.
In the men’s doubles, Auger-Aliassime teamed up with his compatriot Milos Raonic. The Canadian pair didn't have much success as they lost 6-7(14), 4-6 to the American duo Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul in the first round.
The mixed doubles was the event where Auger-Aliassime shone the most, as he partnered with Gabriela Dabrowski, a veteran doubles specialist who had won two Grand Slam titles in mixed doubles before.
The Canadian pair reached the semifinals, where they lost 3-6, 3-6 to the eventual gold medalists Tomas Machac and Katerina Siniakova of the Czech Republic.
Auger-Aliassime and Dabrowski settled for the bronze medal by defeating the Dutch duo of Wesley Koolhof and Demi Schuurs 6-4, 7-6(2) on August 2, becoming the first Canadians to win a medal in tennis since 2000.
After their win, Auger-Aliassime showed off his Olympic medal during a Facetime to his girlfriend, who could not join him in Paris. Ghaibi later shared a screenshot from their video call on her Instagram story, where Auger-Aliassime can be seen smiling and showing off his medal to his girlfriend and their pet dog.
Ghaibi was amused by him casually flaunting his medal in a video call, writing in the caption:
"How are you casually going to FaceTime me wearing your first Olympic medal?"
"Crazy Crazy so proud," she added.
Felix Auger-Aliassime and Lorenzo Musetti to battle for bronze in men's singles event at the Paris Olympics
Lorenzo Musetti of Italy and Felix Auger-Aliassime of Canada will face each other for the bronze medal on Saturday (August 3) at the men’s singles tennis tournament at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Both players have had decent runs at the Olympics, reaching the semifinals with victories over higher-ranked opponents. 11th seed Musetti defeated defending champion Alexander Zverev in straight sets in the quarterfinals, while 13th seed Auger-Aliassime ousted World No. 5 Daniil Medvedev in the third round.
However, their dreams of gold were shattered by the top two seeds, Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz, who dominated their respective semifinals in straight sets.
The bronze medal match promises to be a close contest, as the two players have a head-to-head record of 3-2 in favor of Auger-Aliassime. Their most recent encounter was at the 2022 Davis Cup semifinals, where Felix Auger-Aliassime prevailed 6-3, 6-4.
