The high cost of car servicing recently took Ben Shelton by surprise. He humorously mentioned that he might consider applying for a job because of it.
Shelton last competed at the Paris Masters, where he reached the second round before losing 3-6, 6-7(4) to Arthur Cazaux. He will next represent the United States at the Davis Cup knockout stages in Malaga.
With the ATP season nearing its end, many stars are finding time for activities they couldn't fit into their busy schedules. On Wednesday, Shelton took his car for servicing and left the shop surprised.
He posted a selfie on his Instagram story with the interior of his car in the background. In the caption, he spoke about the $300 per hour car-servicing charge. He then jokingly asked the service shop if they were hiring, saying he might apply for a job.
“This service shop just told me their hourly labor rate is 300/hour when I asked them to do some work on my car. So I said do you have an application I wanna apply for a job. Crazy world out here," Ben Shelton wrote.
The American won 42 out of 67 matches during the 2024 season and will finish the year as the World No. 21. Shelton's only title came at the U.S. Men's Clay Court Championships in Houston and he also reached the quarterfinals of the Cincinnati Open. The 22-year-old's most recent notable performance was reaching the final of the Swiss Indoors in Basel.
Ben Shelton once called out a player for poorly parking a Cadillac Escalade
During the 2024 Cincinnati Open, Ben Shelton recorded a video of himself commenting on a Cadillac Escalade being parked outside the parking lines at the players' hotel parking lot.
After his first-round win over Reilly Opelka, the 22-year-old was asked about the parking incident in the post-match interview. He jokingly responded that if everyone had a Cadillac Escalade, they should park better with the help of 360-view cameras.
“Yes! I mean it’s a disgrace. If they give everyone here a Cadillac Escalade, I think it’s a responsibility right. I know it’s a big truck but you can at least check the parking you know you got the 360 view now. These are advanced cars,
He hinted it was a German player who hadn't played yet saying:
“So I’m not going to expose who it is ‘cause it’s a nice person. But it’s a German player, they are in the main draw and I don’t believe they played yet. I'll let you guys guess,”
Shelton went on in the tournament, defeating Tomás Martín Etcheverry and Fábián Marozsán, before losing to Alexander Zverev in the quarterfinals.
