Martina Navratilova recently took a dig at former US President Donald Trump as a report of his father Fred financing his career came to light. Navratilova is a vocal critic of the Republican nominee for the 2024 Presidential election.
Recently, the British publication The Guardian published an article about how the start of Trump's career was financed by his father Fred. The article also mentioned how he squandered his money. According to the author's estimates, his net worth should have been $80 billion in 2017 but was just $2.5 billion.
The American tennis legend reacted to this report and took another dig at Trump on her X account.
"Hmm. All on daddy’s money," Navratilova wrote.
Recently, she also called out the double standards of the media regarding US Vice President Kamala Harris.
"Media and politicians- Harris needs to do interviews and lay out her economic plans etc. Harris does interviews and lays out her economic plan. Media and politicians- Harris needs to do interviews and lay out her border plan Etc etc etc. While Trump has a concept of a plan…," she wrote.
Martina Navratilova distances herself from Republicans' anti-trans agenda
Martina Navratilova also made her stance on trans-women clear during a podcast episode of 'On With Kara Swisher' in November 2023. She distanced herself from the Republican party's "anti-trans" stance and reiterated her stance as pro-women.
The former World No. 1 said that Republicans were not pro-women as they overturned Roe v Wade, a court ruling that protected a woman's right to have an abortion.
"Republicans are anti-trans. We are pro-women. There is a big difference. And Republicans are just using it as an excuse. And they say, 'Oh look, we’re protecting women.' No, you’re not protecting women. You don’t give a damn about women. Look at Roe v. Wade. So don’t talk to me about women’s rights because you don’t care about that. You’re just against trans people because you don’t like them," Martina Navratilova said.
Navratilova added that she is in favor of trans people having civil rights but believes that sports should be "segregated by sex."
"And so there is a massive difference in that. And, and again, on a civil level, trans people have to have all rights. You cannot be fired because you’re trans, just like you shouldn’t be able to be fired because you’re gay. Either you do the job or you don’t. But when it comes to sports and women’s sex-based spaces, it needs to be segregated by sex," she said.
Martina Navratilova retired from tennis in 2006 having won 18 Grand Slam singles titles, 31 major women's doubles titles, and 10 major mixed doubles titles.
