Danielle Collins shared a post featuring her and former player CoCo Vandeweghe, gulping down shots during a night out with some friends. After facing an early exit at the US Open, Collins later announced that she pushed her retirement plans further, gearing up for the 2025 season.
Months after her last tournament (Guadalajara Open Akron), Danielle Collins stepped out with former player CoCo Vandeweghe and other friends to enjoy a fun night out. Collins has won four singles titles so far, one of which came at the 2024 Miami Open. The American defeated the likes of Bernarda Pera, Anastasia Potapova, and Ekaterina Alexandrova to reach the WTA 1000 final.
With a dominant performance, Collins edged out last year's runner-up Elena Rybakina and claimed her maiden WTA 1000 title.
Meanwhile, CoCo Vandeweghe, the two-time WTA Tour title winner last competed at the 2023 Cymbiotika San Diego Open doubles, where she paired up with Danielle Collins and reached the final. Vandeweghe had announced her retirement ahead of the 2023 US Open.
Danielle Collins overturned her retirement plan in 2024 and confirmed entry to the 2025 season
In May 2024, weeks after her Madrid Open loss to Aryna Sabalenka, Collins discussed her highly anticipated break and shared her plans for a family after retirement.
"I think society and even the people who follow my life closely have had a difficult time accepting the fact that I’m retiring, and it’s really bizarre!I’m going to be 31 at the end of the year!” (via Tennis.com)
However, in an Instagram post shared on October 18, the 30-year-old announced the postponement of her retirement while discussing the effects of endometriosis and fertility-related struggles.
"..I’ve been dealing with some issues around my endometriosis and other health challenges. In addition to managing some lingering health challenges the past few months, I’ve recently been seeing a handful of specialists to better understand what my best path forward is to achieve my ultimate dream, starting a family..." she wrote.
Announcing the decision to continue playing on tour next year, she added:
"So, the DANIMAL story has not reached its conclusion. I will be back on tour in 2025. While there are no guarantees in life, I hope to build on my 2024 momentum and keep playing..."
Her repertoire includes a Major singles final appearance (2022 Australian Open). At the 2024 Paris Olympics, she faced the World No. 2 Iga Swiatek but retired in the quarterfinals due to an injury.
